ribonucleic acid

  • RNA
Molecular biology. A nucleic acid found in all living cells. Compared to DNA it contains the sugar ribose instead of deoxyribose and the pyrimidine uracil instead of thymine. Plays a role in transferring information from DNA to the ribosoms and in protein biosynthesis. Includes three different types: messenger RNA (mRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA) and ribosomal RNA (rRNA).
