Oncology. A malignant new growth made up of epithelial cells, found in skin or the lining of body organs, e.g., in breast, lung, stomach or bowel. Carcinomas tend to infiltrate the surrounding tissues and spread to distant organs (metastases). Carcinomas make up 80% of all malignant tumors.
