annexin V

Biochemistry. A protein of the annexin family isolated from human placenta. It binds to the phospholipid phosphatidylserine in the presence of calcium and displays anticoagulant activity. In experiments annexin V is used as a marker for apoptotic cells which can be quantified by flow cytometry.
