Hsp27

Biochemistry. A member of the small heat shock protein family with the molecular mass of 27 kDa found in human. The chaperone Hsp27 is induced by heat and is phosphorylated by a protein kinase. It is involved in the regulation of cell development and cell differentiation, in the interaction with actin and intermediate filaments and in the inhibition of apoptose.
Notation according to Cold Spring Harbor Meeting in 1996: Hsp (first letter capitalized) refers to the protein, hsp (lower case letters) to the gene.
