German: Steroidhormone
Japanese: ステロイドホルモン

Endocrinology. Hormones derived from cholesterol. They are secreted by the adrenal cortex and gonads. Steroid hormones include glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, progestational agents, androgens, and estrogens. They act by binding to specific receptors to form steroid-receptor ligand complexes, which enhance or inhibit the expression of specific genes.
