Sertoli cells

German: Sertoli-Zellen
Japanese: セルトリ細胞

Histology. Elongated cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testis. They surround and nourish the developing male germ cells (spermatogonia) until they are transformed into mature spermatozoa. They secrete several hormones essential for spermatogenesis. The tight junctions of Sertoli cells with the spermatogonia and spermatocytes provide a blood-testis barrier.
