Medical engineering. An implanted cardiac pacemaker in which the induced ventricular rhythm is independent of the heart's intrinsic electrical activity; it is usually set at a fixed rate of ventricular stimulation. The first pacemakers were of an asynchronous or fixed type with no sensing and no inhibition designated V00. Further asynchronous types are A00 and D00.
