adrenal gland

German: Nebenniere
Japanese: 副腎

Anatomy. Two glands located on top of the kidneys that secrete the adrenaline, noradrenaline and steroid hormones into the blood. The hormones help control heart rate, blood pressure, and other vital functions. The adrenal gland is composed of two distinct endocrine tissues with separate embryonic origins, the adrenal cortex producing steroids and the adrenal medulla producing neurotransmitters.
