xanthine oxidase

Enzymology. An important enzyme of the purine metabolism. It contains flavin-adenine dinucleotide, molybdenum and iron atoms and it is commonly found in liver. It catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and further to uric acid.
