NADPH oxidase

German: NADPH-Oxidase
Japanese: NADPHオキシダーゼ

Enzymology. Membrane-bound enzyme complex that is made up of six subunits. The complex is normally latent in neutrophils and is activated to assemble in the membranes during respiratory burst. It generates the reactive oxygen species superoxide by transferring electrons from NADPH inside the cell across the membrane to extracellular molecular oxygen. Superoxide formation a primary host defence mechanism against microorganisms.
