Anatomy. Several large clusters of nerve cells located deep in the cerebral hemispheres, including nucleus caudatus, nucleus lentiformis, corpus striatum, capsula interna, and corona radiata (still to be discussed). The basal ganglia are involved in the control of motility. Lesions of the basal ganglia occur in a variety of motor disorders. e.g., Parkinson's disease.
