Genetics. Deviation from the normal number or structure of chromosomes that results from the loss, duplication, or rearrangement of genetic material.
Structural aberrations are chromosome deletion, chromosome inversion, insertion, duplication and translocation.
Numerical aberrations are aberrations in the number of the chromosomes (aneuploidy, for example trisomy 21) and the condition of more than two sets of chromosomes (polyploidy).
