German: Photoplethysmographie
Japanese: 光電式容積脈波記録法

Medical technology. A non-invasive method for measurements of the cutaneous blood flow without having direct contact with the skin surface. Infrared light is applied onto the skin (e.g., fingertip) and the amount of reflected light is detected by a photo-electric sensor. This method is used as a pulse counter and in diagnosis of venous disorders.
