  • oxidative burst
German: respiratorischer Burst
Japanese: 呼吸バースト

Biochemistry. A large increase in oxygen uptake by neutrophil granulocytes and macrophages in phagocytosis. This leads to the production, by an NADH-dependent system, of reactive oxygen species (e.g., hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anions, and hydroxyl radicals), all of which play a part in bactericidal activity.
