Immunology. A class of immunoglobulins of high molecular weight that is produced by B cells. It is released early in the immune response to initial contact to viruses and bacteria. IgM triggers the increased production of immunoglobulin G and the complement fixation required for effective immune response. It is the dominant antibody in ABO blood group incompatibilities.
