Study type: Medical/biological study (experimental study)

Long-term exposure of several marine benthic animals to static magnetic fields med./bio.

Published in: Bioelectromagnetics 2004; 25 (7): 498-502

Aim of study (acc. to author)

To investigate the effects of a long-term magnetic field exposure on the survival rate and fitness of several marine species (e.g. crustacea, bivalvia, and pisces).

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

For all species investigated no effect on survival rate could be observed. Blue mussel were further examined for condition index (CI), in the meaning of flesh weight as a percentage of total weight. Additionally the gonad index (GI) of the mussel was determined by grading the tissue in different stages. No significant changes in CI and GI were found either.
