German: Hauptstudie
Japanese: 本格的研究

Scientific investigation in which data observed in clinical, experimental and epidemiological research are collected and evaluated. A good main study is based on a pilot study, and additionally secured by adequate statistical analysis. Compared with the pilot study the main study is

based on a larger collection of samples and a larger body of data.

One can discriminate between main studies which are based on hypotheses and purely descriptive main studies. In any case, a hypothesis stated in the experimental setup allows for especially well-defined statistical conclusions in the data analysis.

In the context of electromagnetic compatibility with the environment, the effects

of electromagnetic fields on man, animals, plants and cells are investigated. These examinations may serve for basic research, the study

of possible risk factors and the development of therapeutic applications.
