Cell biology. A network of proteins (microfilaments, intermediate filaments, and microtubules) within the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell that maintains the shape of the cell, provides intercellular transport, and is involved in cell movement. Parts of the cytoskeleton are involved in cell division and muscle motion.
