Haematolgy. A group of proteolytic enzymes that convert plasminogen to plasmin and so initiate fibrinolysis. The plasminogen activator system is also involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrix, an important prozess of the multiple steps of metastastis. For example: tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA).
