Neuropsychology. A component of the auditory event-related potential showing a negativity in the 100-200 msec latency range. Mismatch negativity is evoked by an infrequently presented stimulus, differing from the frequently-occurring stimuli in a physical parameter like duration, intensity, or frequency.
