putrescine

Biochemistry. 1,4-butanediamine. A biogenic amine formed by decarboxylation of the amino acid ornithine. It was first found in decaying flesh, but it occurs in all tissues. Putrescine is the precursor of the biogenic amines spermidine and spermine.
