1. Communications engineering. A carrier, also called carrier wave, is an electromagnetic wave that can be modulated in order to transmit a signal. See also carrier wave.

2. Genetics. An organism that possesses a recessive gene whose effect is masked by a dominant allele. The associated trait is not apparent but can be passed on to offspring.
3. Medicine. An individual who has some pathogen to which he is immune but who may transmit the disease to others.

4. Biochemistry. An inactive substance that acts as a vehicle for an active substance.
