Chemistry. A white crystalline compound used as an herbicide to control weeds in the

production of corn, sugar cane, and sorghum. It is banned in the European Union, however it is continuously used in non-EU countries as well as in the

USA. It is slowly degraded in soils and commonly detected in groundwater and surface water, including drinking water. Atrazine may cause organ damage and is a suspected hormone disruptor.
