Oncology. The most common malignant tumor of the salivary glands. Mucoepidermoid carcinomas contain three different cell types: mucus-secreting cells, squamous cells, and intermediate cells. The mean age at onset is in the 5th decade of life. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is also the most common salivary gland malignancy in children.
