Carrier Sense Multiple Access

  • CSMA
German: Mehrfachzugriff mit Trägerprüfung
Japanese: キャリア検知多重アクセス

Communications engineering. Decentralized, asynchronous method for the obtainment of access right on bus lines or resp. radio channels. Thereby, all participants observe the transmission line and only send a message with the probability p if nobody else is sending a message, i.e. if the line is idle. Depending on the value of p, a distinction between 1-persistent, p-persistent and non-persistent CSMA mode is feasible.
