Study type: Medical/biological study (experimental study)

Electromagnetic waves of 900 MHz in acute pentylenetetrazole model in ontogenesis in mice med./bio.

Published in: Neurol Sci 2003; 24 (3): 111-116

Aim of study (acc. to author)

To measure the effects of mobile phones on pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced seizures in both prepubertal and adult mice. PTZ is known to impair GABA-mediated inhibition. Mice were exposed before an injection of PTZ.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

A statistically significant difference was found between the latency measurements within 20 h for prepubertal mice in stages 1 and 2 (stage 1: facial twitching, stage 2: mild myoclonic movements in the extremities). In these animals, latency was reduced. Between the other groups, no differences were revealed. The effects on prepubertal mice of long-term 900 MHz electromagnetic waves in a PTZ model may be an indication of possible problems in developing brains.
