Chemistry. A unit of mass equal to 1/12 the mass of the carbon-12 atom (1.66·10-24 g) . Dalton is frequently used in biochemistry to express molecular mass of macromolecules such as proteins. One kilodalton (kDa) is equal to 1,000 Daltons (Da).
