2. Medical engineering. Electronic system generating impulses, used for the stimulation of the heart muscle by electrodes to regulate heart rhythm. The cardiac pacemaker system consists of a pacemaker device and a pacemaker lead. Pacemakers are divided in unipolar pacemakers and bipolar pacemakers depending on the set-up of the electrodes.
