Immunology. A certain type of T-lymphocytes playing a central role in immune response. Helper T-cells express the surface protein CD4 and cooperate with B-cells to produce antibodies. They also cooperate with other subpopulations of T-cells to initiate a variety of cell-mediated immune functions by releasing cytokines.
