Immunology. A certain type of T-lymphocytes playing a role in cellular immune response. They can recognize and destroy cells that are infected with viruses or otherweise damaged. They are distinct from natural killer cells. Human cytotoxic T lymphocytes are marked by CD8 antigens, also called CD8+.
