Purkinje fiber

Anatomy. Named after Johannes E. Purkinje, 1787-1869. Specialized cardiac muscle fibers located in the inner ventricular walls of the heart, just beneath the endocardium. They are the terminal portion of the heart conduction system. The discharge of the Purkinje fibers are assigned to the P wave and QRS complex of the electrocardiogram.
