Aim of study (acc. to author)

To investigate the effects of 3 different pulsed magnetic fields (PMF) on tumoral mice.

Background/further details

A total of 240 mice were used in this study. 98 mice served as control. 75 mice were exposed to 460 Hz PMF, 35 mice to 100 Hz, and 32 mice to 12 Hz.

Exposure duration: from appearance of Tumor till death; 30 min/week or 10 min on 3 non-consecutive days of the week
Exposure 2: 100 Hz
Modulation type: pulsed
Exposure duration: from appearance of Tumor till death; 30 min/week, 10 min on 3 non-consecutive days of the week or 30 min/day, 3 days per week
Exposure 3: 460 Hz

Toroidal pulsed magnetic field

Exposure setup
Exposure source
  • Magnobiopulse apparatus, magnetic field delivered by two applicators
Chamber Exposure was performed in a container which was divided into compartments (29 mm x 29 mm x 100 mm); each compartment held one mouse. The applicators were placed on the top of the container exposing 10 mice at a time. Control mice were placed in the container in the same way as the exposed mice but in the absense of magnetic field.

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

No differences of mean life span were found between the groups. Mean tumor weight were found to be lighter in mice exposed to 460 Hz and higher in mice exposed to 12 Hz as compared with control. The exposed mice showed lighter lungs and spleens, compared with the control group.
The data may indicate a window frequency effect or suggest that higher frequencies inhibit growth.
