Pharmacology. A compound obtained from the bark of the willow (salix). It has bacteriostatic, fungicidal, and keratolytic actions. It is used in preparation of pharmaceuticals such as antiseptic, analgesic (e.g., acetylsalicylic acid), antipyretic, and antirheumatic.
