Organic Chemistry. Group of volatile, highly flammable compounds. In a special sense diethyl ether, C2H5-O-C2H5, a compound with intensive smell, formerly used as an inhalation anesthetic. It is not used any more as an anesthetic due to its explosion risk and its side effects.
