Pharmacology. Immunosupressive and cytostatic antibiotic produced by Streptomyces caespitosus. It is one of the alkylating agents causing cross-linking of DNA and inhibition of DNA synthesis. Mitomycin is used in cancer therapy, it is highly toxic and impairs the bone marrow.
