Biochemistry. Abbr. Gln. Glutamine is the free amino acid occuring most frequently in human organism. It is synthesized from glutamic acid and ammonia. It can pass the blood-brain barrier and plays an important role in brain metabolism, in blood clotting, in regeneration of mucous epithelium and in energy metabolism.
