Enzymology. Abbr. GGT. An enzyme with a key role in the synthesis and degradation of glutathione. It catalyzes the transfer of the gamma-glutamylgroup to an amino acid. The enzyme occurs in kidney, liver, spleen, pancreas, and small intestine. Increased serum level is an indicator of liver damage.
