creatine phosphokinase

Biochemistry. A transferase that catalyzes formation of phosphocreatine from ATP and creatine. It is found in skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscle. Creatine phosphokinase is released into the bloodstream in increased quantities if the muscle is injured. It is an important laboratory parameter for diagnosis of heart attack.
