この研究は、高電力マイクロ波パルス(HPMP:8.8 GHz、パルス幅180 ナノ秒、ピーク電力65 kW、パルス繰り返し周波数50 Hz)が、ヒトの全血白血球または単離したリンパ球遺伝毒性的影響を与えるか否かを、アルカリ単一細胞ゲル電気泳動アッセイ(アルカリコメットアッセイ)を用いて調べた。方形導波管内にて標本に40分間 のHPMPばく露を与えた。標本の温度動態から計算した平均SARは約1.6 kW/kg (ピークSARは約300 MW/kg)であった。HPMPにばく露した50μlの標本の温度上昇は、安定状態で3.5±0.1 ℃であった。その結果、HPMPばく露群では、アルカリコメットアッセイにより検出されるべきDNA損傷は、何も検出されなかった、と報告している。

To study the effects of high power microwave pulses on DNA of human blood leukocytes and isolated lymphocytes.

At the beginning of exposure, temperature of the cell suspension was 23+/-1°C. Then the temperature increased for 10-15 s to the steady state level of 27+/-1°C, which was unchanged until the end of exposure.
Temperature and negative controls were performed at 23+/-1°C (steady state temperature of the waveguide; negative control), at 27+/-1°C (temperature increment during exposure/temperature of the exposed samples = temperature control), and at 37°C (normal physiological temperature; negative control).
Positive controls were treated with the alkylating agent ethyl methanesulfonate.

チャンバの詳細 The cell suspension was exposed to high power microwave pulses (HPMP) in a special plastic cuvette of cylindrical shape with a diameter of 10 mm and a height of 1 mm. The cuvette was placed inside a rectangular waveguide (cross-section 23 x 3.4 mm) at a distance of 25-30 mm from a waveguide flange with the help of a special foam-plastic holder.
Additional information Calculations of the magnitude of the electric field in a rectangular waveguide operating in the H10 mode were carried out for the exterior and interior of the cuvette according to Lebedev [1961] (see reference article); the maximal magnitude of the electric field in the cuvette was about 70 kV/m.

The data did not reveal any statistically significant DNA damage manifested immediately after in vitro high power microwave pulses exposure of human blood leukocytes or lymphocytes or after high power microwave pulse exposure of leukocytes subsequently incubated at 37°C for 30 min compared to the respective negative (23 and 37°C) and temperature (27°C) controls.
