説明:

電磁式物品監視(EAS)システムは、一般的に数10Hzから約20kHzまでの周波数範囲を用いる。全てのEASシステムと同様に、商品にタグをつけ、そのタグを店舗出口エリアに置かれた検出器で検出する(電子的物品監視のカテゴリー参照)。パッシブトランスポンダ(タグ)の中には軟磁性金属ストライプが入っており、店舗出口エリアでの複数周波数の外部電磁界でそのストライプは磁化される。複数周波数での磁化により、そのタグは、外部電磁界とは異なる周波数の磁界放射する。出口エリアの検出器はこの周波数を検出し、警報を鳴らす。不活化では、強い磁界でタグを永久磁化する。そうするともはや検出機構が働くなり、商品は店舗の出口エリアを通過できる。
