Study type: Medical/biological study (experimental study)

Disturbance of cell proliferation in response to mobile phone frequency radiation med./bio.

Published in: Arh Hig Rada Toksikol 2009; 60 (1): 109-115

Aim of study (acc. to author)

To determine the influence of mobile phone exposure on the proliferation, cytoskeleton structure, and mitotic index of V79 cells.

Background/further details

Positive control cells were treated with colchicine (concentration of 0.1 mmol/L).

Main outcome of study (acc. to author)

In comparison to the control cells, cell proliferation declined significantly in cells exposed for three hours 72h after irradiation. Microtubule structure (fibre damage) was significantly altered immediately after exposure. The mitotic index in exposed cells did not differ from negative controls.
The results indicate that cell proliferation kinetics may depend on microtubule impairment after exposure to a mobile phone.
