To investigate the effects of a low frequency electromagnetic field on the proliferation of the anaerobic denitrifying bacterium Pseudomonas stutzeri.

Bacterial cultures were exposed to 1.3 mT or 0.6 mT, respectively. No changes were found for the latter case. In the first case a marked proliferation increase was observed but the relative nitrate reductase activity (i.e. enzyme activity/mg protein) was not altered.
