No effect of mobile phone-like RF exposure on patients with atopic dermatitis

【目的】アトピー性皮膚炎(AD)の患者に対する携帯電話様RF電磁界ばく露の影響を調べること。【方法】AD群15人、およびマッチさせた対照群(非AD)15人の被験者を集めた。900MHzGSM携帯電話機に取り付けた屋内用基地局アンテナを介して、被験者を1W/kgでRF電磁界に30分間ばく露させた。血清中のサブスタンスP(SP)、腫瘍壊死因子(TNFR1)、脳由来神経栄養因子BDNF)の濃度をELISA分析するための血液試料を誘発実験(ばく露/疑似ばく露)前後に採集した。ベースラインの心拍数心拍数変動性、局所血流量、皮膚電位も記録された。【結果】ベースラインの神経生理学的データには両群の間に大きな差異は見られなかった。ベースラインにおいて、AD群の血清中TNFR1濃度は対照群より顕著に高く、BDNF濃度は顕著に低かった。SPは両群で違いがなかった。RFばく露条件に関連した影響は、測定したどの物質についても見られなかった。症状に関しては、報告数が非常に少なかったため、ばく露との相関の可能性は評価できなかった。【結論】アトピー性皮膚炎の患者におけるSP、TNFR1、BDNFの血清レベルへの携帯電話様RFばく露の影響の仮説は支持されなかった。

This study investigated the effect of exposure to a mobile phone like radiofrequency electromagnetic field on people with atopic dermatitis.

Fifteen subjects (7 female, 8 male; mean age 31 years) with atopic dermatitis were recruited and matched with 15 controls without atopic dermatitis. Each subject was both sham exposed and electromagnetic field exposed.
Atopic dermatitis is a disease of the skin, characterized by strong pruritus and dry skin, often associated with other diseases like allergic rhinitis, asthma, food allergy.

チャンバの詳細 The experiments were performed in an exposure chamber with negligible background levels of both power frequency and RF fields. The subjects were seated in a semi-reclining chair in front of an LCD computer screen on which a film was shown.
ばく露装置の詳細 Two antennas mounted on an adjustable wooden framework were placed at a distance of 8.5 cm, one on each side of the subject's head positioned between two wooden bars. The RF signal was directed via a power divider to a power meter and via a remotely controlled selector to the (left or) right antenna or a dummy load. RF exposure was applied from the right side only.
Sham exposure A sham exposure was conducted.
Additional information Each subject attended two sessions, a week apart, with real or sham exposure in random order. The exposure condition was not known by the experimenter or the subjects. However, the physiological recordings were distorted by the RF signal, so it was not possible to keep the study completely double blind.

No statistically significant effects of the radiofrequency exposure were found in any of the measured serum substances. Concerning mobile phone related symptoms a statistical evaluation could not be realized.
