この研究は、インビトロでのC3H 10T(1/2)細胞の形質転換アッセイを用いて、携帯電話通信周波数範囲の無線周波電磁放射新生物性形質転換頻度に与える影響を調べた。実験に用いた周波数は、周波数分割多元接続FDMAの835.62 MHz符号分割多元接続CDMAの847.74 MHzである。まず、新生物性形質転換誘導するような遺伝毒性的影響を調べるために、37℃に保ったC3H 10T(1/2)細胞に、どちらかの周波数のRFばく露(どちらもSARは0.6 W/kg)または擬似ばく露を、7日間、同時刻に与えた。培地を交換した後、培養物をインキュベータに移し、7日毎に新鮮な増殖培地に替えた。42日後、細胞固定してギムザ染色し、形質転換病巣を記録した。次に、新生物性形質転換をプロモートするようなエピジェネティックな影響を調べるために、初めに細胞に4.5 GyのX線を照射して新生物性形質転換誘導した後、前述と同様の方法でRFばく露培地交換しながら42日間与えた。その結果、7日間ばく露およびX線ばく露後の42日間ばく露のどちらにおいても、インキュベータ対照群擬似ばく露群、どちらかの周波数のRFばく露群との間に形質転換頻度の有意差は観察されなかった、と報告している。

To determine if exposure to FDMA or CDMA has any epigenetic effects that can promote neoplastic transformation, cells were also first exposed to 4.5 Gy of X-rays to induce the transformation process and then exposed to the above irradiations (SAR = 0.6 W/kg) for 42 days.

チャンバの詳細 The Radial Transmission Line (RTL) irradiator and the shielded and temperature-controlled facility housing nine RTLs have been described and comprehensively characterised previously [Moros et al., 1999]. Each RTL was formed by two parallel metal plates, 4.3 cm apart, with a lightweight composite top plate hinged to the bottom aluminium plate (1/4" thick) providing mechanical support and equalising the temperatures of the flasks. The TEM waves travelling radially from the central conical antenna (10.2 cm radius) were terminated by an annulus of MW-absorbing foam backed by a perforated aluminium lamina. The radius of the entire parallel region from the antenna's center to the lamina was 53.3 cm.
ばく露装置の詳細 Sixteen sealed T-75 flasks, each containing 40 ml of culture medium, were positioned in the region around the antenna at a mean radial position of 29.2 cm, for a total of 1200 cm² of culture area per RTL, and maintained at 37.0 ± 0.3°C.
Sham exposure A sham exposure was conducted.
Additional information In some experiments, TPA was added to the culture medium when cells were placed in the incubators.
