Compared with the control cells static magnetic field exposure of the cells increased the enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase. In contrast, the activities of the catalase and ascorbate peroxidase were decreased by magnetic field compared with those of the control cells. Level of lipid peroxidation was also increased by exposure.
The data suggest that magnetic field exposure could deteriorate antioxidant defense system of plant cells.
