A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the effects of electromagnetic fields from mobile phone base stations on salivary flow rate and health-related problems among residents of Jaipur in India.

Some health disturbances (e.g. sleep disturbances, headache, dizziness and hypertension) were more often observed in the exposed group residing less than 1 km to a mobile phone base station in comparison to the control group living at a distance of more than 1 km to a base station (remark EMF-Portal: both groups differ in sex and age distributions). Exposed subjects had significantly lower stimulated salivary secretion as compared to the control subjects. Other parameters showed no significant differences between the two groups.
The authors concluded that effects of exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields from mobile phone base stations on the health and well-being of the general population cannot be ruled out.
