Repeated exposure to low-level extremely low frequency-modulated microwaves affects cortex-hypothalamus interplay in freely moving rats: EEG study

この研究は、皮質及び視床下部背内側部に炭素電極を埋め込んだ10匹の自由行動ラットをI群(擬似ばく露超低周波変調マイクロ波(ELF-MW)の反復ばく露の混合ばく露:5匹)とII群(擬似ばく露:5匹)に分け、5日間連続で実験して、脳電図(EEG)の周波数帯毎の平均パワースペクトルを調べた。ELF-MW ばく露は、4Hz変調マイクロ波(915 MHzパルス幅20-ms、~0.3 mW/cm2)の間欠的(1分間「オン」、1分間「オフ」)な10分間ばく露平均SARは~0.7 mW/g)を基本単位として、実験1-2日目は2回(ばく露前、ばく露間、ばく露後の10分間を合わせて実験時間は50分間)、実験3-5日目は3回(同70分間)繰り返した。I群は10分間のELF-MW ばく露擬似ばく露をランダムに混合させ、II群は全て擬似ばく露とした。ELF-MW ばく露により、EEGの周波数帯毎の平均パワースペクトルの実験開始前のベースライン値に比較して、視床下部のベータ2帯のレベルが皮質のものより大きく上昇し、皮質視床下部間のベースライン値でのバイアスが消滅したことなどを報告している。

The EEGs were recorded for five consecutive days either under sham exposures (five rats) or under mixed sham exposure/microwave exposures (five rats).

Extremely low frequency-modulated microwaves increased beta wave2 activity (17.8-30.5 Hz) in both cortical and hypothalamic EEG. Moreover, a cumulative effect under repeated exposures to extremely low frequency-modulated microwaves was found.
In conclusion, the data are in line with evidence that repeated low-level exposure to extremely low frequency-modulated microwaves affects brain functioning and provide an additional approach when analysing underlying mechanisms.
