The effects of exposure of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells cells to a 50 Hz magnetic field on cell proliferation should be investigated.

The cells were divided into the following groups: 1) exposure to a 0.5 mT magnetic field for 20 minutes/day, 2) exposure to a 0.5 mT magnetic field for 40 minutes/day, 3) exposure to a 1 mT magnetic field for 20 minutes/day, 4) exposure to a 1 mT magnetic field for 40 minutes/day, 5) sham exposure for 20 minutes/day, 6) sham exposure for 40 minutes/day.
All experiments were repeated three times.

In the trypan blue dye exclusion test, cell viability and cell proliferation were significantly increased in all exposure groups (groups 1-4) compared to sham exposure groups (groups 5 and 6). In the MTT test, cell viability and cell proliferation were significantly increased in all exposure groups except for group 4 (1 mT for 40 min/day) compared to the sham exposure groups. No differences in cell morphology were found between the exposure and sham exposure groups.
The authors conclude that exposure of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells cells to a 50 Hz magnetic field might promote cell proliferation.
